HERMES CLUB

Press release 2

January 2005

Dear Colleague,

The Hermes Club was established in 1984 aiming to the financial and moral support of the National Philotelic Exhibition HELLAS which was organized by the Hellenic Philotelic Society that year.

The success of the institution, as it contributed by 22% to the Exhibition's income, forced its continuation and, today, the small balance at that time (185,000 drs.) has been increased to $ 4,300.

Unfortunately, a philatelic exhibition in Greece has no income at all, except the rent of the frames and the cases of a sponsorship are not existent. The expenses, however, are real (medals, publications etc).

A general or advanced collector, a national or international exhibitor, a student or researcher of the Hellenic stamp and postal history, whatever the case may be, will certainly satisfy his philatelic interests as any Panhellenic or National Philotelic Exhibition is aiming to his philotelic education.

The National Philotelic Exhibition "Philotelia 2005" has imposed as its target from the very first beginning, the promotion of the Hellenic stamp and the hellenic exhibits. The pioneering initiative to invite four foreign international judges is aiming, among others, to their briefing in particular subjects of Hellenic philotely and their better acquaintance with the Greek collections and exhibits.

On the other hand, the invitation of the Groom collection it is certain that will celebrate the Exhibition and together with the other fine collections which will participate shall help the collectors, exhibitors and researchers to grasp the opportunity to have multiple and interesting readings of the various exhibits and fruitful discussions.

The Exhibition's catalogue is intended to be over the Greek standards and hope to remain a future reference.

The profit of the Hellenic philotely from the above project is obvious and shall justify the voluntary efforts of the OC and the HPS Board members.

Today, at a time when the Hellenic Philotelic Society is organizing the National Philotelic Exhibition "Philotelia 2005", Hermes Club is called again to pay its duty.

The campaign for the financial support of the Exhibition which commenced last November has gathered so far $3.580 from friends abroad and 13.150 euro from friends from Greece and abroad. If we add the existing capital, the total funds exceed the sum of 20.000 euro approximately.

The target is to collect 30.000 in order to cover the increased expenses.

The contribution to the Hermes Club is 100 euro or US$ 100.

We are all invited to take part in the first line of the voluntary offer. We all should offer our contribution to the financial support of the Exhibition.

The Hellenic Philotelic Society very few times has requested the voluntary contribution of its members and friends. Whenever it did it, the response was enthusiastic, as expected, and we are grateful for this.

We are inviting today everybody to participate to a noble battle which has to be won from all of us for all of us.

With cordial philotelic greetings and many wishes for the New Year.
